OUR KILIMANJARO ITINERARY
Feb. 6 Today you will be arriving at Kilimanjaro International Airport, meeting with Protus and getting transported to KIA Lodge for a night to rest up after your long flight.
Feb. 7 This morning we will be Transferring to Ndarakwai Ranch, a scenic and pristine lodge in the foothills of Kili where you will spend the night. Today you will meet with your climbing team to discuss plans and review your climbing gear. The Ranch offers ample opportunity for game viewing as well.
Feb. 8 Starting our first day on the mountain, we will first drive to the gate and register. From there we will hike for about 3-4 hours through lush rain forest. We will camp this night at Forest Camp 2,440m (8,005 feet).
Feb. 9 Second day on the mountain. We will hike up to Shira Plateau where you will get your first great view of the mountain. We will camp tonight at Shira Camp 1 3,050m (10,006 feet).
Feb. 10 This day we will hike across the Plateau to Shira Camp 2 3840m (12,598 feet) also known as Fisher Camp.
Feb. 11 Today we will ascend to our camp at Lava Tower 3840m (12,598 feet). In this alpine zone, you will begin to see a unique alpine ecosystem with indigenous plants and birds. The hike today will be 5-6 hours.
Feb. 12 Today we will continue our trek up to Arrow Glacier Camp 4800m (15,748 feet), where we’ll have an early dinner and rest up for an early morning.
Feb. 13 We will begin our day very early, scrambling up the Western Breech Wall, a challenging and rewarding part of the climb. We will be passing the glaciers as we head toward the summit. After we summit we will descend to Barafu Hut 4600m (15,091 feet) for the night.
Feb. 14 After breakfast we will head down to Mweka Hut 3760m (12,335 feet) where we will spend our final night on the mountain. Your body will reward your efforts of the previous days with a deep and restful sleep after descending from the high altitude.
Feb. 15 This festive day will include Kili songs, a walk down through the rain forest to Mweka Gate for picnic lunch, presentation of certificates & photos. After lunch we will transport you to The East African Hotel in downtown Arusha or Ngurdoto Mountain Lodge in the foothills of Mt. Meru, a rural location, where you will be spending two nights. *
Feb. 16 Enjoy your day and tonight at the hotel of your choice where you can swim, shop, eat and get a sense of the local scene.
Feb. 17 After check-out we will be transporting you to KIA according to your scheduled flight.
