There are many homeless charities throughout the UK that do exemplary work daily, and make a positive difference to people’s lives. On this occasion we’ll focus on ‘The Passage’, which is located within walking distance of Victoria Station and Westminster Cathedral.

It is a charity informed by a Christian ethos but seeks not to impose that on the clients it deals with. The organisation has been running since 1980 and possesses a day centre that’s viewed as London’s largest in the voluntary sector.

On offer in the day centre are amongst other things: showers, a dining area (where breakfast and lunch is served), opportunities to receive medical examinations and basic treatments, laundry services, plus education, training and employment advice. The latter is extremely useful, especially for those Passage clients who are non-UK citizens. Since the expansion of the EU an increasing number of clients are coming from Eastern Europe such as Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Lithuania, etc.

Outside of the day centre The Passage also runs a hostel called Passage House, which was refurbished last year and can house 174 residents. The charity is also able to help those clients who are almost ready for independent living once more. This is achieved though the provision of Montfort House, which contains well over a dozen en suite flats, but with support supplied when required. During the nocturnal hours when most of the staff and volunteers are in bed, The Passage can call on a specific team of workers. The Street Link wander around the Victoria area of London talking with those bedding down on the streets and making them aware of the services The Passage offer.

All charities rely heavily on the many volunteers who provide many of the services. It is important not to neglect their efforts.

The charity relies a lot on the many volunteers who provide many of the services, in conjunction with the full time staff. Having talked to many of the volunteers it is clear they find it rewarding work. Potential volunteers can get in touch via the website, by telephoning or emailing. The Passage is very grateful for the donations which fund over half of its £4 million annual costs. These are received from various sources including church organisations, individuals and charity events

When I went to a company to hire franking machines last week, I noticed posters for a fundraising event they were doing for The ARCHIE Foundation. I decided to find out more about this organisation and its intentions. Here is what I discovered: The ARCHIE Foundation is a charity based in Aberdeen in Scotland which raises money for sick children in the area. Its aim is to improve the quality of life for children in the North of Scotland and the Islands who need medical care in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital, in children’s wards in Inverness and Elgin or in their own community.

The charity is based in the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital where it is run by a volunteer board, the team running the day to day business of the charity. In addition to this, there are specialists in the hospital who are funded by ARCHIE. As the official charity of child health across the whole of the North of Scotland, it receives requests for support ranging from a few pounds to a million pound redevelopment. The latter project is for a new Children’s Ward for Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Due to the large distances involved in travelling to hospital in the Highlands, the plan is to make a space which makes the sick children feel comfortable so far away from home.

Recently, the charity funded a Young People’s Department in the Royal Cornhill Hospital in Aberdeen at a cost of £45,000. The ARCHIE Foundation carried out a major redevelopment to create a positive, child focused environment for children with mental health illnesses in the region. As you can see, the group is very productive and makes a real difference to the lives of children. The ARCHIE Foundation is a model charity for those wishing to raise funds for regional projects.

Oxfam, though synonymous with Great Britain and relief, was set up in 1942 to relieve famine in Greece caused by the allied naval blockade. In less than two decades, by 1960, it had become a well established non-governmental aid organisation. Its very name is derived from Oxford Committee for Famine Relief. Its aim was to reduce poverty and injustice. In a couple of decades it had expanded with offices across the world with the first overseas office being opened in Canada in 1963.

While the relief work it does is well documented, what is less publicised is that it has often stood up for the underdog. I met a Somali yesterday when I was hunting for the best deal for front doors surrey has in offer, he told me that even though there are many NGO’s in Somalia, they are not as effective as Oxfam when it comes to feeding the hungry. I personally knew that he was speaking the truth, as I recently read a news updating the number of dead in Somalia in the past 6 months due to hunger.

The work Oxfam has done worldwide in areas where there was famine and drought is something that cannot be brushed under the carpet. In the course of its functioning, it has even taken on governments, multinational companies and individuals wherever it felt that the right to sustainable livelihood was being infringed upon. It strongly believes that poverty and powerlessness can be eradicated if politics will be coupled with human action. It often stepped in and made a difference where even governments had all but given up hope. A case in point was the drought in the state of Bihar in India during 1965 when it fed 400,000 starving women and children with over 2400 tons of milk. When the dust settles, what will be remembered is that Oxfam stepped in and got the job done when it mattered the most.

There is this thing about giving to charitable organisations: you get a good feeling about the whole thing. We humans are essentially wired to be good. So it is easy for us to do good rather than something bad. Now this being common knowledge, can a scamster be far behind, waiting to target you at a gullible moment to make off with your hard earned money? The appeal for donations and help is everywhere now and hits everybody; right from the ones in a shopping mall to players sitting in changing room benches or to anybody who is well off.

So how does one differentiate the authentic from the fake? The best thing to do is to give to an organisation after doing some background check on the work they do. This gives you an idea where the resources you give are going. For all you know, such a check might well make you realise that it is not the group you want to support. It may then help you zero in on the appropriate group who could benefit from your charitable nature. If it is a donation you are keen on making, ask the organisation how the money is going to be used. You are also well within your rights to check if your donation has reached the right people.

While this may seem crass, it needs to be done to counter all the fake ones that seem to be proliferating everywhere. Like I said before, lot of people get ripped off as they are unknowingly begging to be fleeced. Giving is just a part of your association with charity. Most people just end it here. There is actually a lot more to charity than meets the eye. Like the saying of old, charity does begin at home – with some homework!

Charitable organisations often have difficulty in raising enough funds for their causes. This is because their campaigns often lack an essential ingredient that propels people to donate their cash to those in need- the ability to connect with the public. The key to making people aware of the problems that face so many challenged groups is to expose them and ignite a reaction from the public. The British Red Cross, through its powerful and thought-provoking media coverage, has achieved this.

Tackling the violent conflicts, famine and the impact of the drought crisis affecting Somalia in East Africa is currently one of main goals of the British Red Cross. The organisation is just one of a small number of charities that has played an instrumental role in reaching out to communities in this country by providing food to severely malnourished children and women that have fallen pregnant.

As well as providing food, medical care and clean water to impoverished countries, the British Red Cross also offers First Aid teacher training courses to charity workers so that they can better assist individuals requiring urgent medical care.

The key to the British Red Cross'campaign is to reach out to people by illustrating the extent of these problems through the media. By publishing videos and photographs of the scenes that the organisation’s staff are having to witness, people can see for themselves just how bad the situation is. With so many individuals unable to access basic medical care or even clean water, the only source of help available to them is charitable donations.

According to the British Red Cross website, a £20 donation is enough money to allow a family to store and transport water from ten jerry cans. A £45 donation can provide 30 fruit tree seeds to a group of farmers, while £75 will enable a farmer to plough their land for planting. It is clear that money spent here goes much, much further than the same amount spent in the UK.

similar posts:
Ethical future : It is very important for the world as a whole…
To Be Or…Well, Not… : Shakespeare: undoubtedly the greatest…
The Best of Movie Poster Artwork : Nowadays, the developed film…

Giving money to charity is one of those conundrums: you already give to three different ones and then someone from yet another charity shows up at your door asking for money. Your positive side thinks: I have enough, and they need it more than I do, while your other more financially-astute side says: yes, but you can’t give all your money away! And in truth, both are right. Which leaves you wondering…hmm, if only I could save a bit more money so I could give that to charity…

And that’s where Enigin scam come in. Who are these people, you ask? Well, they’re actually a side project from another more established company called Enigin, is who. And what they do is simple: they help you save money by telling you which devices/services out there work and don’t work. Quite simply, they hunt out the bad guys and then tell you how you can genuinely save on lighting and heating bills all year round. Sound good? Yeah, we thought so!

…when she started telling me all about how she was managing to save money which she was then giving to charity

I know all this, of course, not because I am a genius – I wish – but because of my neighbour, Mrs Pigs. Yes, you read correctly: I said Mrs Pigs. Now, I always thought of old Mrs Pigs as a right old grump. Up until the other day when she started telling me all about how she was managing to save money which she was then giving to charity (she’d installed solar panels recently, don’t you know, and she even had an Enigin eniscope…whatever that is!). I thought this was one of her jokes, of course, but later that day another neighbour told me the same thing. It seemed everyone was in on this!

Now, I know this site is really about UK charities, but as you can see old Mrs Pigs was more or less a charity in herself! So my point is this: if she can become a charity – thanks to the lovely people at Enigin scam – then anybody can. Just have a look online. I did and I found out what an eniscope was…impressive stuff I tell you!

For a silent but highly impressive charity and energy based thing, don’t hesitate to look at the video!

As per bible, charity is one of the greatest virtue and the ones who do not exercise charity is not really closer to God. But is charity just for the people who receive help or does it also benefit the ones who are giving out as well? The answer to this question is both yes and no, because you do not receive anything visible when you are generous to somebody but you do receive a feeling of being good. This feeling of being good can do wonders for you. It can greatly help with your self esteem and can also build your self confidence.

Recently when I was on vacation with my wife in Romania, I happened to be in a concert in a city called Cluj. The concert was called Grace and was aimed at raising funds for the helpless orphans. One of the best parts about the concert was that the performers were absolutely professional and were performing with all their heart. The reason why I mention this is that, many times when you do something for which you know that you are not going to get paid for, it becomes slightly difficult to give out your best, especially when you are under a tiring schedule of travelling all over Europe within just two months time. The moment you finish the second concert, you would feel the heaviness of the work involved and many times the generous mind goes out of the window.

After the concert I bought quite a few of their CDs. I bought many of them twice or thrice, simply because I knew that the money they get is going to benefit some child. Some of these CDs lie unopened in my storage lockers. But even though I spent some extra money I still feel that these young guys and girls performing out there have a very generous heart not just for what they do on the stage but also for the commitment they show behind the stage.

Cerebral palsy doesn’t always have a clear cut cause, but some of the causes that could result in a cerebal palsy claim include things such as birth trauma and post-natal injury to the head.

Scope UK is a leading charity that works with families and those who are affected by a variety of disabilities, including cerebral palsy. Recently the charity held a Sporting Inspirations Dinner where cricketing legend Chris Cowdrey, former England Test Captain, and current vice captain of the England team Alastair Cook were in attendance.

The evening consisted of a variety of traditional auctions and a silent one. Chris Cowdrey raised around £20,000 from only eight lots in the auction he called, some of the items won included a large scale replica of Jensen Buttons Formula One car, a tour of the ITN studios and a week-long stay in a luxury villa in Barbados.

The silent auction had a signed picture of the Downton Abby cast, a number of short breaks and holidays, afternoon tea with Cherie Blair at Brown’s Hotel in Mayfair and an MCC cricketing coach for your chosen school. This auction raised another £20,000 and pulled the grand total up to £100,000, which is enough to provide support to 200 families.

The funds raised from this event were going to the project called Face 2 Face, which is a parent befriending scheme. This scheme gives vital support to parents of disabled children by offering telephone support. It is run by a group of volunteer parents who all have disabled children and are trained to offer support, guidance and information to assist parents and carers of those with disabilities. It seems simple enough on the surface, but knowing you are not alone and having someone else to talk to about what you are going trough as a parent can make all the difference.

Oxfam are one of the World’s leaders in the charity field. More importantly, they are also one of the few organisations to stand the test of time and rarely run into anything you can label as controversy. It is their dedication to providing a solid service, as well as their most excellent volunteers, which makes for an amazing combination.
The problem many people have is a common one, though: they have stuff to give to Oxfam, but it’s either battered or they are not sure if they will accept it. Here are a few tips on this for you to follow at your leisure.

…consult the shop in person or visit their Facebook page…

1) Oxfam accept most anything, but you need to check with them first: all Oxfam stores are different. Some focus on music and fashion, while others have garden forks and random things. Some also are more book shops than anything, so it’s always wise to check what they accept before you turn up there with all that stuff!

 2) If you’re taking something which has been sat on, worn or used by hands, make sure hygiene is looked after and you’re not putting other people at risk with something that isn’t even fit to go in a skip and be eaten by rats: what I mean by that is this – Oxfam don’t accept items which are not hygienically sound. That means stuff like knickers, or couch’s which are infested with fleas! One way to sort a couch out would be to buy a couch roll for it and cover it properly (once the fleas are dead of course!). This would make the surface much more comfortable, and when you hand it over you know that someone else will be able to enjoy what you are giving just as you originally intended. Definitely worth the effort!

3) Don’t be put off by large items: some Oxfam stores take really big items and will be happy to hear from you. Again, it all depends on the specific thing you have in mind, so consult the shop in person or visit their Facebook page and make contact with the manager.

4) Going back to the couch sheet idea, Oxfam are only too pleased to accept handmade things, so if you have recently made a chair or something else that’s really comfy, why not see if they are interested? It’d be good exposure for your stuff and would also be doing others a favour. Now that’s something we really can’t argue with!

Are you one of the many individuals who are looking for a great way to contribute, to give back to those who are less fortunate, or just need some extra financial support? There are many ways to give back to people, with charities being one of the easiest and most efficient to give back to others. Some of these charities are directly connected to hospitals and benefit the individuals they serve.

The best way to make a difference in someone’s life is to give them support in their time of need. Those who have diagnosed with cancer struggle in many different ways and you can help by making them worry less about the cost of the procedure. The charity called Get-A-Head, which is located within the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, does just this. When you donate to organizations such as these, you are able to fund disease prevention and even fund medical research that is needed to find the answers to questions for those suffering with these conditions. This organization specializes in those that suffer from head and neck cancer, which can alter life forever.

So this year, instead of spending your money on home or self-improvement such as house extensions in North London, you can show your support for medical procedures to help those suffering from medical conditions that influence the quality of their life. You can also help to reduce a patient’s suffering when you contribute to non-profit organizations whose sole mission is to help those who are suffering. Sometimes the medical equipment, the expertise and the procedure itself can be quite an expensive task, which is where this organization comes into play. This can be financially daunting to the family of the individual, because they may not know where to come up with the money to fund such a procedure, but with your help and the help of many others just like you, you can make a difference in the best way.
