Shoebox As A Tool For Charity – A 21 Year Long Campaign

September 15th, 2011

Samaritan’s Purse, a charitable organization, has been conducting a shoebox charity campaign for children for the past twenty one years. Named as Operation Christmas Child, this campaign involves encouraging children to send us shoe box full of gifts to the charitable organization so that the same may be handed over to needy children abroad on the occasion of Christmas. What is really heartening is that this process has started in the middle of September. This means that the charitable organization is really committed to the goal of ensuring that the poor and needy children in foreign countries have their Christmas presents on time.

This charitable campaign is one of the biggest in the country and offers a wonderful opportunity for parents to inculcate social responsibility in their children. Kids can be encouraged to allocate their old video games, R4i memory cards for Nintendo games, old clothes and other such stuff as Christmas gifts for poor kids well in advance.

The idea of incorporating the shoe box into the campaign is a really innovative one. For starters, every child who goes to school will automatically have a shoebox. This means that every child will have the opportunity to participate in this campaign. Secondly, the shoe box is big enough to satisfy the child living abroad and is small enough to console the donor child that he or she has not given up a lot.

Further, the shoebox adds a bit of childish fun to the entire affair and converts the campaign into a fun affair for all the kids involved. Parents should not just contribute to such charities but should also set up such campaigns at the community level to ensure more kids enjoy their Christmas all over the world. Such acts make Christmas celebrations more meaningful and truly celebrate Christmas spirit.
