I am in tears I'm so proud of you Courtney! I know that your Dad is doing this with you. You have transcended the fear of this disease to use your courage to conquer it. I am with you 150%. I am thankful to your amazing team, especially Coach Carla, for such support, dedication and love. I wish I could go---but, I'd need about 150 porters to get me to the top! I will be there in every other way and will be crying for joy when you reach the summit and when the cure is found! I could burst I love you so much! XO Mom

What more can be said than has already been said? You are courageous, a force to be reckoned with and aware of your inner being, which is saying "Don't give in". You and all of those who are going on this sojourn, are right up there with Mother Theresa...but don't let it go to your heads! All you can do is conquer one day at a time, and when the sun comes up, your challenge begins again. Breathe in the fresh air, look around at all of the beauty that you are priviledged to be a part of and know that you matter and all will prevail. I hope you have a flag to plant on the top and then get yourselves back down for a hot tub and a hot toddie. I will think of your everyday and be a little envious of the risk that you are taking. It is through your hard work, that your efforts will be rewarded ten fold. Courtney, you know I love you more than life itself.

Habari Gani,
Good luck to this incredible group of women! I am proud of your physical and mental commitment to help raise awareness of HD, by climbing Africa's highest peak.
I found some quotes to inspire you for your climb...
"Never tell me the sky's the limit, when there are footprints on the moon."
So when you see the moon on the slopes of Kili remember those footprints, and the men who placed them there had courage just like you!
Erika has been climbing mountains since she was 2! Trying to outrun her mom and dad. We are happy to have Courtney as part of our family. We love you both! We hope to meet the rest of the climbing party with champagne glasses in our hands!
Teamwork saying from a Kenyan Proverb~

Good Luck to you and your friends, Erika. Here is a favorite Psalm of mine that I think is appropriate to your adventure:
Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills. From whence cometh my help? My help cometh from the Lord, Who made Heaven and Earth.
May the Lord walk with you, inspire you, strengthen you, and keep you all safe! Love, Deb & Dean Reed

Climbing a mountain is so incredibly similar to doing research on Huntington's disease. It takes hard work and training. It's hard to see how far you've gone or how far you have to go because our minds tend to focus on what is in front of us - also, sometime the sight line to the top is neither straight nor visible. At certain points, you get a sense that you've covered an awful lot of ground and that you have what it takes to finish the job. While you are climbing, please know that thousands of HD researchers will spiritually join you on the journey - and know that we will be motivated by you in ways that cannot be described by words.

Hello This climb looks amazing. What an amazing effort to climb Kilimanjaro!! My brother, Sean Egan, is gene positive for the HD gene. He recently rode his bicycle across Australia (3500km in 24 days) to raise funds and awareness for HD in australia. Please have a read of his website (www.genepositive.com) to get more information regarding his efforts. He also had plans to climb kilimanjaro one day but you have beaten him to it. All the best. Keep up the good work. My brother is an inspiration to me and my children. You guys are sure to inspire many to achieve their dreams. Brendan Egan Melbourne, Australia

Hi guys,
You all are definitely an inspiration! My husband is 50/50 and we are getting ready to go through genetic testing for him soon. We live in Virginia and are looking to put together a team of athletes to race in a triathlon here in May. Would you all be interested in coming out east? Please email me back at ahbowersock@jchs.edu, I would love to get something set up with you.
God bless, Ally

God bless each and every one of you! I commend your valiant courage in facing this incredible challenge to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro - & in raising awareness & $$ for HDF! You show the world your courage by facing HD head on & making the most of your lives EVERYDAY!! You will assuredly be in the BEST of hands, not only with my "adopted" bro Protus Mayunga leading the way for you, but my brother Mike O'Brien & Courtney's dad Buster will definitely be carrying you through the tough times with their spirit! All the best to you, I will be following along in your progress with Protus! There's love, strength & support in the HD family! Kathryn O'Brien Caltabiano

Ok, I'm back in town and just got my teeth cleaned so my smile will be extra shiney when I'm grinning ear to ear this Saturday when I meet everyone else that I haven't already...
Between HD and Kili you are attacking two mountains - both monumental undertakings. I find it fitting that although Kili is not the highest mountain in the world, its peak is the closest one can be to the sun while standing on the earth. Likewise with the HD fundraiser: 1 million dollars will bring us that much closer to feeling the warm solar rays of CURE in all of our lives.
Good luck and God's grace to all.

Just wanted to say that you are so inspiring. You are the only person that read about and know you are my age and actually can relate to what I am feeling. I am 35 live in CT found out that I have the gene one year ago and it is devasting. When you talk to friends or even my husband I don't think anyone could possibly understand. I have a four year old too - so you could only imagine what goes along with that now.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that you are very courageous and thank you so much for raising so much money for HD! It is greatly appreciated by my whole family.

Have been reading your website and am very excited for all of you for your up- coming adventure. Congratulations for your work to find a cure for HD. My grandmother, father, and brother all lost their battle with HD. My sister and I have both been thru the genetic testing and are negative. My sister is the mother of Billy Arron Brown, a tireless worker for the HD cure. Best of luck in your endeavor and God speed.

I Think it is awesome what you are doing. My prayers go out to you during this Klimb for the Kure. Thank you for all the encouragement that you are giving Heather.
I've been following your & Brad's HDSA campagne over te past year and it is trully amazing what you've been up to. If more artists & celebs would use their fame to get this world closer towards things that matter, we would all be somewhere else than the current status quo. But thanks to dedicated enthousiasts like you there is hope & what you & medical research have been up to is so inspiring. Thanks so much!!
Just wanted to wish you all the best & fingers crossed while getting ready for your African adventure :)
I've been up to Kili some 10 years ago; made it as far as Gillman's Point (5681 metres ASL).. then the world stopped for me & man the headache was killing (that's why they say 'Kili will kill you..').. the final 150 vertical metres was off-limits for me, and the real top at Uhuru Peak remains a challenge for next time :)
Not sure how the sponsoring has been doing (fingers crossed!!) but as an MD (not recognised in NL when relocating to Amsterdam from Prague some 13 years ago; burocracy..) it just feels so amazing to watch your mission.. I'll try to check around with some contacts here in Netherlands & via friend in Spain who's working within the pharma/ biotec industry.. you never know.. would be cool to get some $$ help your way :) maybe you have tips how/what/ your Sponsorship seeking tools-wise? if yes, I'd be happy to hear from you :)
Have fun with preparations for the trip :)
ciao & take care.. Helena xox

Sending a shout out to my lovely and awesome Auntie Katy Bradley. I love you so much...and your precious family too. You are SO strong and courageous, and you will dominate this mountain. Along with the rest of the team of course. : )
I am so proud of what you're doing! One day soon our efforts and sacrifices will pay off in a joy and happiness beyond our imagination....THE CURE! May the HD Angels who have passed, guide you and give you strength and continued courage in your mission. I know my late husband - the father of my three children, as well has his brothers Louis and Johnny, who died of HD, will be cheering you on from a place where they are no longer suffering. Thank you, on behalf of my three children, Margie, Michael, & Marie, all at the late stages of HD, and on behalf of the entire HD community.

Thanks to all you courageous people, you are an inspiration to all impacted by this disease. May the weather be perfect for your climb and you all enjoy the view from the summit, a life changing event for sure. Thanks again, may you be successful in all your endevors - here's to raising a million and finding a cure!
I sent $100 per Amex today so lets hope it arrives.. use it well & make sure you stay safe at altitude!! it's tricky and you really can't prepare fully, even if you acclimatise extra days!
I now need to survive on bread for days but hey I'd do anything to support your initiative! Happy I noticed the DONATE NOW button & yeh have updated my note on YouTube so hope that more people follow my example.. fin gers crossed!
I wrote that I nearly died at Gilman's Point.. just want to say DON'T WORRY.. you are doign the SHIRA route while we went the COCA COLA way.. Shira route is much better for correct acclimatisation so you girls should be fine!! we had an extra acclimatisation day at Horombo Hut (3720m ASL) and went up the Saddle but it didn't prevent altitute sickness symptoms striking my brains at Gilman's Point.. I'd love to show you my photos from that trip.. pity I don't have them in digital form.. I have a handmade paper album, it's cherrished!! my photo at sunrise at Gilman's Point with empty eyes would score in outdoor magazines!! might try to digitalise it and send your way as it's so funny!!
OK, it's just a few days for you to go.. excited??.. have a great time getting reaxdy and if you need someone to join let me know.. I'd LOVE to climb that mountain again, and this time get as far as UHURU Peak.. and that with you!! haha.. well I am highly flexible so you never know :)
Listening to Pearl Jam now, Liz :)

BEST OF LUCK ON THIS GREAT ADVENTURE! I've just sent Nancy Wexler's recent email about your trip to the American Alpine Club for possible publication in their newsletter. Do any of you belong to the AAC? I am a member and would be happy to sponsor you. They have grants in aid to young climbers, and for research projects involved with climbing, among other things. And at least, they may help publicize your trip. How do I contact you directly? -DMS

You've got my attention! I do not see any merchandise to buy, but shirts or badges to promote and get other people's attention would be great to see.
What a tremendous boost of energy and hope you bring to the community.
Hello from Memphis, a land without ANY mountains - my husband and I both grew up in Seattle, and we are envious, yet appreciative, of what you're planning!
We were, in fact, up in Seattle just a week ago. (I learned about Liz from an HD research nurse at the VA/UW, & wish to get in touch with Liz to discuss an event in Memphis for '09 fundraising.)
This is a very philanthropic community yet our HD team really needs guidance. Perhaps I could schedule one or two of you to come speak about your climb? Or we are also eager to hold a concert or other type of gala event in this area. We promise y'all Southern hospitality!
Anyway, I was thrilled to learn of the climb through Nancy's email today, and our HD group may have some $$ for you.
I look forward to hearing from Liz, or someone in your group when convenient.

To My Dear Sister Katy,
First, I want to say how much I love you, how much I support you and how much I believe in you for what you doing. You are the strongest woman I know for everything you have had to go through and I truly wish that I could be half the person that you are! I only wish too, that I had all the money in the world to give to research in finding a cure....I know there will be a cure someday, especially with people like you and your team taking on such a courageous climb. I will be thinking of you everyday and wishing you and your team the most wonderful and safe adventure and I know that our angel Matthew is going to be smiling down on you all the way!
I Love you and God Bless you all,

We want to wish you the best on your trip to Africa. What an amazing adventure you're about to go on. Thank you for bringing awareness to HD - you are all truly inspirational and are making such an impact. Stay safe and enjoy every minute of it! Love to you all...
it's just a few days and then it's off to Tanzania for you.. you might even be there by now, getting ready for your adventure?.. I just wanted to once again tell you what an amazing inspiration you have been for me.. to see this kind of initiative, strenght, desire, fight, mission you name it is trully mazing..
GO FOR IT & BEAT THE MOUNTAIN!!
hugs, Helena
P.S. my YouTube channel now with Klimb for the Kure pic all over the page.. hope it helps fundraising!!!
Well tomorrow the group of 13 takes off to begin the Klimb for the Kure adventure of a lifetime! We are flying from Seattle to Amsterdam, then Amsterdam to Tanzania! After a couples day of rest and prep we begin the actual hike up Kilimanjaro Sunday, February 8th, starting somewhere between 3,000 and 6,000 feet elevation (don't know exactly). We will ascend for six days, with our summit day scheduled for Friday, February 13th, at 19,340 feet!! We get back to the base on Sunday, February 15th. A total of 8 days climbing!
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all your support!! It has meant so much to me, my team, and the Hereditary Disease Foundation. With months of training, breaking in boots, and fundraising, we are proud to say we have raised over $150,000! It is a wonderful achievement! And the fundraising is going to continue well past this climb. We are considering doing other climbs throughout the year...I'm thinking we'll check in with that feeling once we're down from Kili! haha. But seriously, all your donations and warm wishes are giving us the kind of encouragement we need to get us up that mountain. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and love!
We will be checking in with you as often as their is internet.
It's amazing to read your note, Courtney!! I live in Amsterdam so will be watching your plane fly above my canal.. wish I could join you for this amazing trip.. great to hear that you plan more ascents!!.. let me know as I breath 'Outdoors & Pearl Jam'.. me the 'help the planet' soul :)
Looking forward to watch here your notes about how things have been going up the mountain.. you will love Tanzania!! it is a jewel!!
hugs, Helena

Three days to go as I write this, want to wish you all the BEST of luck, I admire your courage and commitment, and envy your depth of friendship and understanding. My prayers are with all of you and your family members who weather the ravages of this cruel disease. Want you to know that there are parts of the Pearl Jam community out there who back you, with donations and with speading the word, who are truly sincere -- so many of us love PJ for their music and because we share a vision, a vision you obviously share as well. So Liz, not EVERYONE sees you as someone to snap the photo when you and Stone are accosted while walking down the street!! :))Be strong, be proud, and I know you won't let any little old mountain get in the way of your goal!
loved your note, Susan!! great to meet a fellow PJ fan here.. check my YouTube channel.. any idea why I call myself 'Stone & Eddie' and same goes at my Ten Club profile.. are you hooked?
oh and by the way, Liz.. what Susan just wrote; if I would ever meet you & Stone somewhere out there, it would be like aaaaah!! heaven!! and by the way, I sent you & Courtney invitation via LinkedIn but it got bounced.. I have now included the link to my LinkeIn profile under 'website'.. if you have a spare sec check it as I've been funraising via my connections there as well.. have Heineken & Sir Richard donated already?? I have contacts via via.. will work on it.. $850.000 to go is a lots of $$$ so fingers crossed!!
ok, you guys are now getting ready for the adventure down there in Tanzania.. make sure you also check Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and especially (!!) Zanzibar.. it's a pearl (jam) see ya!!
me again.. forgot to once again mention that I live in AMSTERDAM so if you need a KLIMBing buddy (or porter; I'll do it for free) LET ME KNOW as I can HOP ON NEXT KLM FLIGHT and can be there BEFORE SUNDAY.. really this is no joking.. as ANOTHER DONATION (I've already spent $100 on you) I could SPONSOR MYSELF as NP entrance fees are HEAVY $$$.. so pls let me know in case you need a 14th KLIMBer.. I'VE BEEN UP AT KILI, made it as far at GILMAN'S POINT.. need to get to UHURU PEAK one day.. would be cool to do it NOW WITH YOU.. is this a good open letter of application? see ya :)
Hi Heather, we are all very proud of you at Pioneer Village. We are thinking every day where you might be at the moment. Shirley always cries when we talk about your courage to do something this big instead of giving up. Hope you have good hiking boots, its a looong way up there. Have fun, girl! We love you Karin

Hello Courtney, I am an old childhood friend of your mom, Julie and Tucker. Julie and I met when we were 5 years old and are forever pals. I am inspired beyond words by your courage and tenacity - let alone the physical shape you must be in to tackle the mountain! I will be making a donation in memory of your dad - (I see his smile in your picture!) & your grandma (who taught me to love singing!) So here's to lots smiles and singing on the climb! No question in my mind that your ancestors are with you and cheering you on!
Best wishes for a safe and fulfilling climb!

For your information, I have paid for the delivery charges, Insurance premium and learance Certificate Fee of the Check showing that it is not drug money or meant to sponsor terrorist attack in your Country.
The only money you will send to the FedEx Delivery to deliver your Draft direct to your postal Address in your country is ($400 USD) only being Security Keeping Fee of the Delivery Company so far. Again, don't be deceived by anybody to pay any other money except $400US Dollars. I would have paid that but they said no because they don?t know when you will contact them and in case of demurage but now i am on a course in which they will not be able to contact me for the payment. You have to contact the FedEx Delivery now for the delivery of your Draft with this
